What's so special about the watch?
There's a whole slew of Submariner homages out there, each with their own selling points and reasons to own. This one here stood out for me with its 'damage' and general wear to the surface of the watch - a certain character that I prefer to a minty out of box one any day.
What are the functions of the watch?
Time, date. Cyclops.
Let me tell you about the case...
This watch is 'used' in all sense of the word. The case comes with marks of everyday wear, but is saved from the scars of neglect and abuse. You won't find any deep gashes or violent scratch, but there will be a fair share of light and medium level scratches. The caseback, however is in good condition, its coin edge bezel probably having something to do with it.Â
The aluminum bezel is the highlight for me. Faded and scratched up, the watch personifies a tool watch. The lump pip at 12 is but long gone, leaving behind a crater that lends its own brand of charisma.Â
And now the dial...
It's a simple black glossy dial, white prints all over for the minute marks and brand. The lume indices are lined silver, and the date window sits in a debossed scoop, a rectangle cut into its middle. The lume is a loupe paradise, its surface cakey and full of chracter.Â
Let's not forget the hands...
Mercedes, and a lollipop sweep. Lume included.
