The 30-second summary.
The Titoni brand of watches mean a lot to me as a collector from Singapore. Our nation had something to do with its introduction into China, where they made it big. Utter the phrase "mei hua" to most of the elderly men here and they will nod in agreement - that this brand makes good watches.
What's so special about the watch?
Among the many styles of watches that Titoni produces, the Cosmo King cuts it closest to luxury with its resemblance to the Rolex Date Justs and Day Dates. Of particular interest to me is the family this watch on offer comes from - the President Day Dates.
The Titoni Cosmo King Day Date is a slimmer version from their Rolex counterparts, offering a nice tuck under the sleeve while still retaining much of the flair and authority. Paired with the two-tone bracelet, this watch becomes as much of a legend to me as any other brand's emblematic pieces.
What are the functions of the watch?
Time, day and date.
Let me tell you about the case...
The case for this watch is slim, which in my opinion makes it resemble the Rolex Date Justs in terms of size. Like the latter the stainless steel cases of the Titoni Cosmo King is of a nice slender curve that hugs the bezel closely, making the solid gold fluted piece the focus of the wrist watch case.
Also like the Rolex Date Just cases, you will find that most of the Cosmo King cases have been put through at least a round of professional polishing, thinning out the straight lugs and softening our the bevels on the sides. This one is no exception, although the resultant finishing is of a brilliant shine that has been kept well free from scratches.
On the caseback is the elaborately engraved screw-on caseback that has the brand's five-petel flower as the center piece, free from careless machine and tool marks.
And now the dial...
A black gilt dial with a nice coat of shine greets the wearer, its markings printed in white serif font that's clean and crisp under the loupe. Classic Cosmo Kings like this one typically have simple stick batons as hour markers, with a dot of lume at the tips. The lume on this watch matches has been nicely preserved, with the warm sunlight hue matching from dial to hands.
Cut into 12'O is the wide arching day window that stretches from 11 to 1'O, like the one on the Rolex Day Dates. The day wheel beneath has the day spelt out in full, with an Arabic numeral representation in case the wearer doesn't read text.
A circular date window has also been framed in gold at 3'O, barely encompassing the printed dates on the white date wheel beneath.
At 6'O is the iconic (to me) rhinestone of the Cosmo King model of watches, mirroring the applied Titoni logo at 12'O underneath the day window.
Let's not forget the hands...
Sword hands complete the prestige of the Titoni Cosmo King Day Date, slits of lume cut into the centre to help with the legibility, and in the same gold hue as the applied hour indices.
