my vintage watches

The 30-second summary.
For collectors of mechanical alarm watches, this one will be quite the find - a 1950s Rado Green Horse Alarm, all original, all working, all ready for a new owner.

What's so special about the watch?
Let's start with the dial - an aged patina perfectly preserved with a hint of freckles on its face. The applied hour indices and Rado Green Horse logo providing the right amount of depth for that photogenic money shot. Moving across the handsome face are four hands aged in tandem, long sharp swords slicing through time.

All that, encased in a stainless steel body tipped with a gold-tone fluted bezel, according the watch its very vintage allure. For those who need a little more detail in a good watch, take a closer look at the crystal, where you will see an engraved Rado logo on the acrylic dome, a very rare sight indeed.

A treasure from the past, for the gentleman of the present.

What are the functions of the watch?

Time and date, with mechanical alarm complication.

Let me tell you about the case...

Compact and classy, the 34mm stainless steel case is tipped with curved lugs, giving it a very nice silhouette from lug to lug. A gold fluted bezel caps the flirtatious curves, orange from the ages and matching the dial oh so nicely. The duo crowns are fluted like the bezel, sharp tips protruding from the right of the case.

Despite the small diameter, the case sits well on the gentleman's wrist, its slightly thicker width a result of its movement and the Rado water proof outer case back.

And now the dial...

This is the highlight of the watch, for sure. The textured dial has aged to a color of faded pine, small patches of patina accenting several parts of the dial in a consistent sprinkle. The Rado brand and the Green Horse name are printed at 12 and 6'O in nice and clear ink, raised in the center and sharp along the edges like all original prints should be.

A silver framed window at 3'O holds the date, while at 9'O the symbolic Rado horses stand applied, almost in wood style, and as high as the 'Wide Boy' indices bursting the edges. An applied Rado anchor sits humbly at 12'O, pointing in parallel to an identical smaller one etched onto the center of the crystal. Orgasmic.

Let's not forget the hands...

The time telling hands are in aged silver, complementing the framed date window and the outlying case. The shorter alarm pointer sits at the bottom in faded red, an extention of the ridges of the applied indices and the minute marks around the glorious dial.
