my vintage watches

What's so special about the watch?

You know you've made it when people around start giving you nicknames. While a little late to the game, the Seiko 'Cevert' is a worthy piece to add to any respectable collector's watch box. A less flashier option than the Pogue, but one cannot dispute the wrist presence that this watch gives.

What are the functions of the watch?

12-hour mechanical chronograph with quickset day and day function.

Let me tell you about the case...

The case has a substantial weight to it, which is one of its selling points for me. A well-made watch should have a nice heft to it in my opinion. The stainless steel case retains much of its sharpness and lines, though the crystals are showing a little scuff here and there.

Another worthy design point of the case is the really short lugs, which when paired with the large round dial makes the 40mm watch wear smaller than it seems. The lugs thrust downwards, making the dial shoot out even more. The dark dial color also makes it a strap monster. This watch will get noticed for sure.

And now the dial...

It's got what we call a petroleum dial, a deep oily blue and grey and green mix that shines in the sun. The sloping tachymeter chapter ring guides the eye down into the printed minute markers. Block indices adorn the sides of the dial, the gaps in-between them made for the chronograph register, brand mark and the covert day-date window with black colored backgrounds.

The chronograph register at 6'O are cut neatly into the dial and have '17J' stamped on top of them. Rounded Arabic numeral markings are printed onto them, seperated by short hash markers. Printed on the side of the sub-dial chapter rings are the time-recording markers, a well-thought out theme of lines and square that are also present at the main dial.

Let's not forget the hands...

The Seiko 6139s are known for their broad sword hands, thick bevelled and well-lumed. The chronograph hands are in deep red, the center sweep tapered and the sub-dial one a tear drop.
