my vintage watches

The 30-second summary.

The Rolex 6694 is the quintessential starter Rolex, proving yet again that big things can come in small packages. The clean dial on this Oysterdate Precision allows you to appreciate the slim elegance of its stick markers and the gilt markings - a gentle reminder that watches were first meant to tell the time, in style.

What's so special about the watch?

This 6694 manual wind is as good as they come, with its bracelet and case in excellent condition. Definitely a watch that hasn't seen a lot of wear, evident by the lack of scratches on its case and crystal and minimal polishing on its sides.

Most of the cases of the vintage Rolex Oyster dress watches have been polished, and this is no exception, albeit not as much as others I've seen. With so many 6694s out in the market, I suppose condition is what you'll be looking for. I put up this Rolex manual wind for your consideration, knowing you will not be disappointed.

What are the functions of the watch?

Time and date.

Let me tell you about the case...

The 6694s come in a neat 34mm case, their straight lugs protruding from underneath its polished bezel. The case on thsi one has been moderately polished by its previous owner to retain its shine, which you can see from the small amount shaved off the lugs.

Apart from that the case is in pristine condition, perhaps not having been worn out a lot. The acrylic crystal is also nice and flat, with minimal signs of polishing.

And now the dial...

A cool simplicity greets you as you look at the dial, and it will no doubt grow on you as time passes. I love a good gilt dial, perhaps the best type that Rolex has to offer collectors of vintage watches. A layer of gold textured against a flat black gloss, contrasting classy with gutsy.

The Rolex 6694s were understated, their applied stick markers long extended hashes againt their thin minute counterparts. At the tip of each index is the typical round lume dot, in this case matching the ones on the hands.

At 3'O the date window sits, engorged by the iconic cyclops magnifier of Rolex Oyster fame.

Let's not forget the hands...

The long and slim stick hands are in the same tone of gold as the indices, the minute hand squaring off perfectly against the end of the hour index.
