What's so special about the watch?

'The Sun Rise' is whispered among vintage Seiko chronograph collectors in hushed tones, and raises many eyebrows and wallets when one even comes up for sale. The azure blue vertical brushed dial, matched with sporty yellow streaks and the H-shape case of the Seiko Pogue - estacy and serious bragging rights if you ever manage to get your hands on one. It is something that money can't buy, and luck (and connections) will pay a larger part in your owning one. The one on sale here, is a mini variant of the Sun Rise, in a different color, and a smaller case size - part of a trio of teal, grey and green.

What are the functions of the watch?

12-hour mechanical chronograph with quickset day and day function.

Let me tell you about the case...

With the dial taking center stage, it's no wonder that this variant focuses on reducing the case size and using a polished bezel and flat hardlex crystal to really make the dial pop. While this definitely takes away from the sportiness of the (much) more coverted Pogue case, the streamlined case with straight lugs presents a slightly dressier appeal.

This example is in excellent condition, with only tiny hairline scratches due to wear. The brushed surface of the case is also visible on the top, with polished bevels presenting little dings and damage. The case back itself is also in good condition - the stampings clear and legible.

And now the dial...

A grey dial, matches with deep red in the sub-dial, radiates from beneath the flat hardlex. It's vertical brushed, deeply, letting light play off the surface liberally in a brilliant dance. White hashmarks are printed on the dial and chapter ring, complementing the long baton indices in giving the watch its sporty appeal.

The lume on the dial is intact and matches that on the hands, with two spherical plots at 5 and 7 being particularly interesting to me.

Let's not forget the hands...

The Seiko 6139s are known for their broad sword hands, thick bevelled and well-lumed. The chronograph hands are in red - for both the center sweep and the sub-dial hands.
