What's so special about the watch?

This 7016 was rescued from a life of neglect in a display shelf and onto mine. The watch has gone through a service and is ready for wear, and is one of the lesser seen vintage Seiko chronographs in the collecting circle.

The 7016 is one special chronograph movement - a flyback. While the more popular models are those with the 'Monaco' cases, the circular cases are a pretty awesome sight as well. The small-ish watches came in 36mm but weighed a lot more than expected because of the intricate movement inside of them. 

This watch is the blue dial variant, a light layer of patina has settled over the dial giving it a very authentic appeal. Worth noting is the scar above the day-date window at 3'O - the serviceman, in a grand display of ignorance, has decided to help me with disguising the silver flesh underneath by dabbing it blue. 

While visible under most light, it takes little away from the charm of a 7016 chronograph.

Let me tell you about the case...

The round case is free from the heavy dings and scratches of daily wear, a sheen still on for catching attention. The short lugs make it wear smaller than it is, but does little to detract from the instant allure the moment you have it on.

And now the dial...

The sunburst blue dial has on it a light sprinkle of age dust - you will notice a slight mist of patina masking the brilliant blue shine, visible more clearly under the sun. The rehaut is a thin ring of white minute markings, lending a sporty feel to the dial. 

The layout of the inside is nicely balanced too. The Seiko logo is applied at 12'O; the minute register cut into 6 in white with black print; a framed day-date window at 3; and the Seiko Daini mark printed at 9'O with words demarcating it an automatic wind. 

The hour indices are short batons, aged and tarnished the same fashion as the hands, day-date window, and in some manner, the case.

Let's not forget the hands...

Five hands. The time telling ones are neat sword hands, while the typical tapered Seiko chrono sweeping seconds tips red at the end. The plastic register hands are used to tell hours and minutes, the minute register hands a sort of eye drop shape while the hour hands are your typical chronograph stick hands.
