What’s so special about the watch
This is a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) Seiko 6306 Turtle — a rarer sibling to the more commonly seen 6309. It carries the “Third Diver” lineage before the 6309 era, with the hacking capability and refined movement that makes it highly prized among enthusiasts. The worn case, unique patina, and character earned over decades make each one of these live pieces of history.
What are the functions of the watch
It displays hours, minutes, and running seconds, with a day/date complication.
Let me tell you about the case
The cushion-style case is about 44 mm (across with crown) and shows solid wear, surface marks and edge softening consistent with age — but the profile remains strong, and the lugs retain their shape. The bezel is the original black diver insert with minute scale, showing light fading and wear (adds character). The caseback is stainless steel, and the crown is at 4 o’clock, as expected in this line. Overall, this case has stories, but it still wears true to its vintage diver heritage.
And now the dial
The matte black dial delivers classic diver clarity. Circular and trapezoidal lumed indices remain legible with vintage patina, and the day/date window is visible at 3 o’clock. The printing (Seiko / Automatic / Water 150 m Resist) is consistent with the era and shows minor aging but intact. The patina in the lume is a light yellow, and gives it a warm, aged tone that complements the steel case.
Let’s not forget the hands
The hour hand is broad and arrow-shaped, while the minute hand is a sword style; both carry aged lume that matches the dial indices in tone, albeit with a little of that signature Seiko moss. The seconds hand is slim and unobtrusive, sweeping smoothly. Together, they give the watch that classic “tool diver” look without over-restoration.
